August 17, 2015
TROY, OH <17 August 2014> - Looking good and being prepared to learn helps any child head back to school feeling confident and ready to succeed. It’s this philosophy that pervaded Lincoln Community Center, 110 Ash Street in Troy, on Sunday, August 16 as the staff and local sponsors offered the third annual “Back to School Bash” for Troy area students. A total of 172 school-aged children enjoyed the fun filled afternoon, getting haircuts, collecting school supplies and celebrating the end of summer together before heading to class on August 19th.
As they return to school, the students now have book bags, notebooks, calculators, paper, pencils, protractors, compasses, binders, index cards and tab sets supplied by Troy Rotary Club. “In the three years that we’ve hosted this event, we have seen the number of participants continue to grow,” said Rotarian Shane Carter, executive director of Lincoln Community Center. “We are very excited that Rotary helps us get these students ready to head back to school with the supplies they will need, starting day one,” he added.
Along with Rotary, the event is supported by Omega Psi Phi - Xi Iota Iota Chapter, Family Abuse Shelter of Miami County, Troy-Miami County Public Library and Trojan Insurance Agency in Troy. “All our sponsors continue to be very generous in their support of this program,” said Carter. “It’s with their ongoing assistance that we continue to help more and more local students be ready for school each year,” he noted.
