TROY, OH <20 July 2015> To kick off the 2015-16 Rotary year, the Troy club has announced their roster of officers. Attorney Andrew H. Johnston is president. He was president-elect in 2014-15 and stepped up to the top position in April 2015. Johnston will be supported by a stellar team of civic and business leaders for the upcoming year.
Richard Bender, Executive Director of United Way of Troy, will serve as president-elect. This Rotary year will provide Bender with the opportunity to learn all that will be required of him when he becomes president in July of 2016. Serving as vice president is J. Andrew Wannemacher, the Court Administrator for the Miami County Juvenile/Probate Court in Troy. Wannemacher will work closely with Bender and Johnston to keep the club’s programs active and beneficial to the Troy community and surrounding area.
Rachelle Miller, Executive Director of Troy Miami County Library since 2008, will assume responsibilities as club secretary. As leader of the library, Miller handles day-to-day business and programs at the Troy library, Local History Library, Oakes-Beitman Library in Pleasant Hill, Ohio, as well as bookmobile services. Starting his 28th year as sergeant-at-arms is Howard Cheney, owner of Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home in Troy. A dedicated Rotarian for four decades, Cheney is responsible for greeting all members at weekly meetings and tracking their attendance, having maintained a perfect attendance record himself for the past 37 years.
Thomas Giere, co-owner of Nolan, Giere & Company, will continue in the capacity of treasurer for Troy Rotary. He has held this important position since 1996 and does an outstanding job of working with the Troy Rotary Foundation to provide thousands of dollars of financial support for Rotary programs and scholarships for Troy students. Past president Carol Baer will continue to lend her leadership know-how and support for the club’s new officers. She also served as president of the Troy Rotary Foundation in 2015. Baer worked with Giere and fellow Rotarians to evaluate all current and proposed Foundation projects. Her guidance ensured that the Foundation work aligned with the club’s mission and strategic plan through an updated application for grants.
