GOING BACK TO SCHOOL IN STYLE! TROY ROTARY FOUNDATION SUPPORTS “BACK TO SCHOOL BASH” AT LINCOLN COMMUNITY CENTER
August 9, 2014
TROY, OH <19 August 2014> - It takes planning and focus to get ready to go back to school, and Lincoln Community Center helped make the whole process more fun for over 100 area students this year. During their second annual “Back to School Bash” on Sunday, August 17th, Lincoln Community Center provided critical school supplies and haircuts to make sure all the students would look and feel their best for the first day of school on August 20th. “It’s so important that these kids are ready to head back to school with a positive outlook and be excited to learn as much as they can,” said Shane Carter, Director for Lincoln Community Center and Troy Rotarian. “We are grateful that local businesses, churches and private donors have responded generously to support our program again this year,” he added.
The Troy Rotary Foundation, which is funded by the Rotarians, donated book bags, protractors, compasses, scissors, pencils, rulers, notebook dividers and boxes of facial tissues so all the students have the supplies they need to succeed in school. “It’s been a true pleasure to work with Shane, Nicole [Burton] and all the volunteers at Lincoln Community Center on this program and to see the kids look forward to going back to school, ” explained Melissa Kleptz, Executive Director of The Troy Foundation and member of Troy Rotary. This is the second joint project between Lincoln Community Center and Troy Rotary Club this year. “At the start of the summer, we worked together to upgrade the basketball equipment that is used almost daily at the Center. We replaced the backboards, nets and rims but also added pads to the posts to make it safer while the kids shoot hoops,” said Kleptz.
The Troy Rotary Foundation supports several community projects annually. In 2013-14, more than $11,000 in scholarships and aid was distributed from the fund, including providing opportunities for local Troy students to attend summer camps at Brukner Nature Center and Waco Air Museum. The Troy Rotary Club is a member-involved, goal-oriented service club focused on socio/economic issues that have an impact both locally and internationally.
