TROY, OH <19 June 2014> - During the 17 June 2014 meeting of the Troy Rotary Club, Carol Baer handed over responsibilities as President to Donald (Don) Willis. His appointment becomes effective on 1 July 2014. Willis, a long-time member of Rotary and avid supporter of many nonprofit organizations, is honored to accept the challenge of growing the membership and helping the local area thrive. “The impact that the Troy Rotary Club has had, and will have, in the community is what excites me,” said Willis. “As our programs continue to expand to benefit the people of Troy and Miami County, it is my goal to make Troy Rotary an organization business and community leaders want to join.”
Stepping up to help Willis drive success in Rotary is Troy native, and newly appointed President-elect, attorney Andrew Johnston. Dr. Barb Wagner of the Upper Valley Career Center accepted the opportunity to be Vice President and Anne Moore-Goings, Vice President of McCormick Marketing, will be the Secretary of the Club for the year. Tom Giere and Howard Cheney will continue in their roles as Treasurer and Sergeant-at-Arms, respectively.
During the 2013-14 year, Rotarians supported multiple programs in the Troy community. The Club formalized a partnership with Lincoln Community Center, read stories to Heywood students on Dr. Seuss Day and served meals at the Hobart Community Kitchen each month, just to name a few activities. Additionally, Troy Rotary Foundation distributed more than $11,000 in scholarships and community aid. Willis hopes to do even more during his tenure as leader of the service club. “Members continue to find ways to make a real difference in our town,” he stated. “From involvement with the Troy High School Interact Club and summer camps at WACO Historical Society and Brukner Nature Center, to the annual Easter Egg Hunt and Designated Driver program, Troy Rotary is helping shape the lives of future civic leaders.”
